The existentialist parking at Waikato reminds me of a sign in a Japanese clothing store: "Ladies can have their fits upstairs".

Like the Chang Gung Memorial Hospital. I agree it should not count if spread over several hospitals.

There are bigger ones than Waikato here spread over several hospitals here too.

The "biggest" is something we were always told, so I assumed it was correct. At one point I had a manager who'd moved here from Australia and she said there was nothing bigger there, so perhaps it should be Australasia.

Oops, I forgot KZN: Prince Mshiyeni Hospital in Mabeni: 1200 beds and Madadeni regional Hospital: 1107 beds, Edendale Hospital: 900 beds. There is also a psychiatric hospital with more than 1100 beds in KZN (no,no, no cheap shots about Zulu's apparently being a bit crazy): Ekuhlengeni Hospital.
In the North West there is Mafikeng Provincial (392 beds) sharing the same Campus with Bophelong Psychiatric hospital with 420 beds. Whether that is one hospital is a moot point of course.
I'm sure there are several others larger than 600 beds in SA. Even in NZ, doesn't Auckland Hospital have more than 700 beds?

Some good tweets.

However, I do not think that Waikato Hospital with about 600 (?) inpatient beds is the largest Hospital in the Southern Hemisphere. That is big of course, but far from the biggest. That would be the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto with 3294 inpatient beds (at present, due to renovations, temporarily reduced to about 2800).
'Bara' -as it is affectionately known- is the second largest hospital in the world, after the West China Hospital with more than 4000 beds (I do not count the Chang Gung Memorial 'Hospital' 's 9000 beds, since that is a spread out conglomerate of several hospitals).
In South Africa alone (apart from Bara) Ga-Rankuwa (now George Mukari) Hospital in Pretoria with 1952 beds, Tygerberg Hospital in Cape Town with 1899 beds and Groote Schuur Hospital, also in Cape Town, with 893 beds are all larger than Waikato.
[Of course there are other measurements than number of beds, eg. number of medical personnel, number of patients treated, of operations performed, etc. etc., but it is the traditional measure to estimate a hospital's size.]
