Thanks Ken. I've too tired to even fix my post - I'll just hope people read the comments to get the correct story. What you wrote is what I read when I looked him up, but I'm at the point where I can't even think straight. I've just finished the Worry of the Week, but I'm too scared to post it for the same reason. Who knows what rubbish I wrote? I'll have a look tomorrow!

Small correction, Turnbull has been Liberal leader before and was when Abbott challenged him in 2009, winning by one vote.

This came about because Turnbull's support for an emissions reductions scheme split the Libs. Reports are that he had to promise no change to Australia's pathetic climate change policies to secure the needed votes now, so don't look for change there very soon. As Abbott was not only encouraging the use of coal, but actively discouraging the development of alternatives like solar, I expect the first change we'll see will be regarding alternatives, rather than any improvements in reduction targets.

The initial polls mean little as who ever replaced Abbott was sure to get a bump just for not being Abbott, but the worry is that he will indeed take a page out of Key's book and make the current govt look more palatable even if little changes in many areas, like the horrible treatment of refugees and support for US interventions in the Mid-East. So yes, Aussies will get to vote on marriage equality, but otherwise Turnbull may be mostly lipstick on a pig.
