Other anonymous- I keep hnavig to point out to Colin James in my Gaynz.Com columns that he has no real evidence-based grounds for his continued claims that 'political correctness' cost Labour provincial support. Perhaps, but by the same token, Brian Tamaki and the Exclusive Brethren aren't seen as mainstream by many urban liberal New Zealanders. His comments about 'gynocracy' do not surprise me. As for your point about age, yeah, exactly. It's male menopause. It makes testosterone go rancid.Craig Y

I think that the downfall of the Internet-Mana party was driven by the desire of Kim Dotcom to use the political process as a vehicle to advance personal revenge against John Key for perceived injustices. Many New Zealanders obviously decided that they were uncomfortable with this.

No boredom here! It was really interesting election.

In reply to <a href="https://www.heatherhastie.com/the-kim-dotcom-effect/#comment-2">Doug</a>.

Hi Doug. I agree that the Maori party has done much more for Maori than Hone. I think it is bad for Maori that they seem to have forgotten why the Maori party was formed in the first place. The Maori party has achieved a lot working with National and it would have been a good strategy for Maori to have given their electorate votes to the Maori party. Still, National is continuing to work with the Maori party, even though they don't need their votes, so that's a plus at least. As for Hone, he tends to get into the media when he is outrageous, and the good stuff he does gets overlooked. He's not as bad as he's painted, though not as good as the Maori party.

Nice article although I don't agree that Hone is a loss to New Zealand politics. He has let Maori down with his rhetoric, but no action in contrast to the Maori party who have achieved a lot of good for Maori. I think his alliance with Dotcom shows his true personality i.e. its all about Hone
