In reply to rickflick. Also, I think many people don't realize just how important coral reefs are to the planet's health. I posted a video about it a while back, but I can't find it. I lost several posts when my site went down and was unable to recover them. It's only when I try to find one I realize it's even missing. There was one about a couple of mosques in Cape Town, South Africa, that welcome gay people that I've wanted to refer back to a couple of times, but it's gone too.

In reply to rickflick. Beautiful video and I agree, we need to have some optimism to avert the worst catastrophes of climate change. Unfortunately, while we may yet respond in time to avoid some very bad outcomes, I fear it may be too late for the barrier reef already, as some estimates are that it will be gone by 2060 and the world's current commitments will not bring emissions down enough before then.

I’m caught between a negative feeling that mankind will never really get it right about maintaining our Earth. And something more optimistic. Global warming was warned about in the 1940’s and when I was in school in the 1960s, it was well understood that we were in desperate trouble as a species and as a planet. Yet it was not until the turn of the century that it began to get some attention, and not much until relatively recently. Now, at least part of our society recognises the risk and is taking steps to solve the problem. But, is it too late? Sometimes I think it is too late. There has to be a very rapid change in human technology to save the reefs and forests. Let’s hope were still have time.
