Kaine has flipped on the TPP though, having been an ardent supporter. More evidence that Hillary isn’t lying about her own flip, though it could still be just for the campaign, with a “compromise” being reached that allows it to pass during the lame duck session of Congress.

Clearly her polling shows most progressives will turn out for her even if she flips them the bird, which makes sense with Trump on the other side even if it’s depressing. And Kaine is from a Southern swing state who apparently puts North Carolina in play as well, and speaks fluent Spanish, which is a nice gesture given Trump again, though you wouldn’t think she’d have to shore up the Latino vote either.

I was hoping she would too, but I’m not surprised in the slightest. Kaine has a lot going for him in his own way.

Bush was basically a decent man, though, of course, just plain wrong about a lot of stuff. The biggest problem was his belief that he was acting for God and I think that was something encouraged by people like Cheney and Rumsfeld, who the country would have been better off without.

It’s not that long since the US changed to a two-term limit for POTUS. My opinion has always been that I would have preferred Hillary in 2008 and for Obama to take over for the next eight in 2016 – give him time to get a few more years of experience. I think that overall he’s been a good president and history will judge him much more kindly than he’s getting at the moment. A lot of the complaints about him are rooted in GOP propaganda and just aren’t true imo, but he hasn’t done a good job of correcting their narrative.

Unless the GOP makes some major changes they aren’t going to get the White House back in a hurry because being a party of white men is no good when the demographics and social mood of the country are changing. Letting themselves be taken over by Trump isn’t the sort of change they need.
