Welcome, and thanks for your kind words. Ayaan Hirsi Ali is an incredible women. To see the sh*t she so frequently has to put up with makes my blood boil!

And yes, I have to admit, the Irish were the better team on the night. It must be something about Chicago at the moment – first the Cubs break a 108 year drought, then Ireland beats NZ for the first time ever. We had to get beaten eventually, and if I had to choose a team to do it, Ireland would have been on the list. I’m really glad it wasn’t Australia or South Africa! 🙂

I’ve just stumbled across your blog via a piece of yours which was posted on the Rational Society of Australia’s web page regarding the defense of Aayan Hirsi Ali. I thought it was an excellent piece, and deserves a positive comment. I’ve read all but one of her books and find her to be a true heroin for the majority of oppressed Muslim women around the world.
I think Christopher Hitchens would have been very proud of her.

I have read your comments on Jerry Coyne’s blog and always agree with what you have to say. I also learn something almost every time you comment and, being a teacher, that’s an important component when gaining mentors. I live on the other side of the world – Nova Scotia (Canada) but travel to Australia frequently, as we have family there. Every New Zealander I have met I have liked!! (also, those who travel to both places always say, “If you like Australia, you’ll love New Zealand!”) I’m hoping to do my own comparison someday.
